Post #7: 2022 Year in Review

What a memorable year!  2022 brought some new and exciting moments and some decision making we weren’t expecting.  But over the Christmas break we took some time to reflect and review our year.

The main resource we used was the same the Year in Review Guide from Janine Deanna that we used last year.  We selected the key areas we want to focus on and then created an agenda for our meeting.  This year our review took us just under an hour and provided important insight into what we needed to focus on in 2023.  Here are the highlights from our review:

Reflect

  • Personal highlights: a few highlights included our annual vacation in Fairmont, camping in Lake Country and Jaime’s mindfulness retreat

  • Business highlights: a few highlights included bottling our new Pinot Gris and Syrah, our Pinot Gris winning a Silver medal in the Wine Align Awards of Canada, and our second article in the Calgary Herald

  • Inventory review:

    • 2019 Riesling - sold out

    • 2020 Riesling - 57% of inventory sold

    • 2017 Crossroads red blend - sold out

    • 2019 Crossroads red blend - 21% of inventory sold

    • 2021 Pinot Gris - 23% of inventory sold (released summer 2022)

    • 2020 Syrah - 15% of inventory sold (released fall 2022)

Review

Revisit annual goals: Reviewing our goals this year was much different than last year. Last year it was clear that we didn’t revisit our goals throughout the year. This year we put our goals up where we would be able to see them and checked in on how we were doing. While we didn’t reach all of our goals, we made significantly more progress than we did last year.

Frustrations and challenges: While we identified several frustrations this past year, we determined that our main challenge was finding the time to keep on top of everything we have to do while continuing working full time and raising Lucas.

Celebrate

  • Best of the year: Aspen Crossing superhero train ride, trip to Vancouver, increasing our number of wines available for sale from 2 to 4 and formally starting our property hunt

  • New habits to cultivate: continue to work on regular planning and review meetings to monitor our goals

  • What we want more of: consistency, consistency, consistency

  • What we want less of: operating in a reactive manner rather than proactive

Key Takeaways

So what did we learn from all of this? Our key takeaways were:

  • Keep doing: this remains the same as last year, we want to keep sharing our story and our journey, and we want to increase the number of stores and restaurants that carry our wine

  • Lessons learned: we need to continue to identify, track and measure our goals, and we need to meet on a consistent basis to review those goals and our progress

And that wraps up the summary of our 2022 year in review! If you have a business, have you completed a year in review? Let us know below!
